Understanding the Print Resolution Differences of the Afinia L701 and Epson CW-C6500 Gloss

Understanding the Print Resolution Differences of the Afinia L701 and Epson CW-C6500 Gloss

Posted by BK on 23rd Mar 2022

When it comes to 8-inch color label printers, there are a few key points that should be taken into account when deciding which printer to choose for your business or organization. One of the most important factors is print resolution – the clarity and sharpness of text and images on the printed labels. After all, the quality of your labels is a direct reflection of the quality of your business.

Afinia L701and Epson CW-C6500 Gloss color label printers are both great options, but they have different print resolutions. The Afinia L701 has a max 1600 x 1600 dpi print resolution, while the Epson CW-C6500 Gloss has a 1200 dpi print resolution.

Does a 400 dpi difference really make a difference?

The answer is yes. The higher the print resolution, the sharper and more detailed the text and images on your labels will be. If you need high-quality, crystal-clear labels for your business, then you’ll want to go with a printer that has a high print resolution – like the Afinia L701.

However, there's even more to the story. The type of ink that a printer uses can also affect label quality. The Afinia L701 uses dye-based ink, while the Epson CW-C6500 Gloss uses modified pigment-based ink designed for use on glossy media. Dye inks generally produce brighter colors and more vivid images than pigment inks, but they can also fade over time. Pigment inks are less likely to fade over time, but they produce duller colors. In general, dye inks are better for printing product labels on glossy media while pigment inks are better for industrial applications on matte media.

We should also note that the Afinia L701 blazes past the Epson CW-C6500 Gloss when printing high-resolution 8" labels. Watch the video below to see the print speed difference for yourself! Spoiler alert: the Epson doesn't even come close.
